Pop's 80th Birthday Bash

In late February, we celebrated my wonderful Pop's 80th birthday!  It was so fun being together with my parents, sisters and Clark, and grandparents to celebrate one of our favorite people.

Mom made a giant banner with 80 fun facts about Pop that corresponded to the numbers 1 - 80.  Mammo and Pop loved reading these when they got to town on Saturday morning!

We put together a box of 80 gifts for Pop, including some of his favorite things like Sudoku puzzles, books, snacks, tea, and toothpicks :).  Mom wrote the cutest poem to tie them all together.  My family gave me a tote with 21 gifts for my 21st birthday, but this box took that idea to a whole new level!  Mom, Melanie, Mary Katherine, and I had fun shopping for the box in Waco on our girls' trip.

Mom outdid herself on the food, as always - chicken salad sandwiches on homemade bread for lunch on Saturday, hot dogs, hamburgers, and potato salad for supper on Saturday, and the best smothered steak, butter beans, carrots, and biscuits for Sunday lunch after church.  Instead of birthday cake, Pop requested a coconut cream pie, A sweet lady who goes to church with my parents, Mrs. Darla, just so happens to make the best coconut cream pie you've ever tasted, so that was our dessert on Sunday.

It sounds like all we did was eat, but we did also squeeze in a walk or two around the neighborhood, some back porch sitting, a game of Ticket to Ride, and some porch pictures.  It was a great weekend celebrating our Pop - we are so thankful for his 80 years!

  3. How sweet!! Your grandpa looks so happy/excited looking at everything. The gifts are adorable, such a good idea!

I just had butter beans for the first time since Christmas this past weekend!! My MIL makes the best butter beans I've ever had, and always makes them for us when we go home to visit.

Hope you have a great week! :)
