Dallas Baby Shower

After our fun shower last weekend in Austin, some of my wonderful friends hosted a beautiful baby shower for me in Dallas on Saturday.  Once again, I was overwhelmed with all the love our friends and family have for our growing family and so thankful for this time to celebrate!  The hostesses went above and beyond with so many sweet touches, and I loved every little detail.

I am so thankful for these beautiful ladies and great friends for putting together such a perfect morning to celebrate Betsy!

It was so special to have Katey's grandmother's beautiful demitasse cups at the shower.  These are the perfect size for a pregnant girl's cup of coffee!

Mom and Katey's mom have been friends since childhood, and Katey and I are only two weeks apart and grew up together, along with the other Katie below.  It was such a special time to all get to celebrate together this weekend.  Katey and Katie both have little girls already, and I'm so excited to be joining the club!

Lindsay and Emily were also so sweet to help host the shower, and having both welcomed little ones this spring and summer, I hope they are ready to answer all my infant-related questions!

Once again, our family traveled from all over Texas to be here for the shower, and I'm so glad they did!  And once again, Betsy received so many beautiful gifts.  I absolutely cannot wait to see her in all of her precious new outfits!  This child is also doing quite well in the bag department after receiving several darling embroidered bags in all shapes and sizes.  She'll be ready for some road trips in no time.

After the shower, we made some great progress in Betsy's room by getting the furniture placement figured out and hanging the window treatments Mom made.   It was so fun to have my parents and sisters here for the weekend to help with Betsy's room (and to watch the Aggies beat Auburn).  I am thrilled with how everything is coming together, and I can't wait to share some pictures of her room here on the blog after a few finishing touches!

Austin Baby Shower

Last weekend, Austin and I were spoiled with a precious couples' shower in Austin to celebrate baby Betsy coming later this fall.  Betsy received some beautiful gifts, and we absolutely loved the chance to celebrate her with our Austin friends and family!

The hostesses included so many sweet details like these rattle cupcakes, beautiful cookie favors, and a cute crate for all of Betsy's new books.  I love that guests brought books instead of a card!  Betsy's library is off to a great start.

The photo booth was also a huge hit!  So thankful for our sweet sisters and my Mom who traveled to Austin to celebrate with us.

Although our temperatures in Texas are still quite summery, I couldn't help but embrace a more fallish hostess gift for this shower.  And now I'm wishing I had scooped up another pumpkin spice tea for me!

We are so blessed with wonderful friends and family all over Texas and are so thankful for their encouragement and for our time celebrating together!

Baby Craft Gender Reveal

My last post recapping our Fourth of July left out one tiny detail from that weekend... my sister Melanie and brother-in-law Clark announced over Fourth of July weekend that they are expecting in January 2017.  I am so excited to be an aunt and for Betsy to have a cousin so close in age!

For the past few weeks, Melanie and Mom have been hard at work getting ready for baby Craft's gender reveal party, which was Sunday afternoon.  The timing of the party worked out perfectly for us as we had a wedding to attend near Houston on Saturday and were only a short drive away from where Mel and Clark live in The Woodlands.

Our little group of Ol 'Ags wives got lots of stares and comments at the reception thanks to multiple babies on the way!  We figured out that Betsy and her friends will all be at A&M together as the class of 2039 :)    Before heading to the party at Mel and Clark's, Megan and Jon hosted us, the McDonalds, the Sheffields, and the Keels for a delicious brunch at their pretty house in Katy, which was the perfect start to our Sunday.

Once we made our way to The Woodlands, we pitched in with some last minute party prep and started the countdown to the big reveal!  Melanie and Mom did a great job with all the food, and all of the decorations and little touches came together so perfectly.

The photo booth and props were a fun touch, too!

After what felt like waiting forever, it was finally time for Mel and Clark to pop their poppers and for everyone to find out whether Mel and Clark would be welcoming a baby boy or baby girl in January.... and as almost EVERYONE had predicted, baby Craft is a BOY!

Since finding out that they were expecting, no one has been able to picture this baby being anything other than a sweet baby boy, and this was the perfect way to confirm that we were all right. Austin and I are so excited to meet our nephew in January!!

Fourth of July Weekend

We spent the Fourth of July weekend in Livingston with my parents and Melanie and Clark.  We missed Mary Katherine so much but are so proud of her for committing to a six week mission trip this summer!

Mom had yummy enchiladas waiting for us when we arrived on Friday night, and she served the best Mexican chopped salad on the side.  When we got home and stocked up on groceries, I made sure to pick up all the ingredients to recreate the salad for us in Dallas.

The weekend was full of rest and relaxation, just the way we like it when we visit!  Mom and Melanie and I got to watch our favorite Food Network shows on Saturday morning, and we played lots of games: Yatzee, cards, Apples to Apples, Ticket to Ride, and even one round of Trouble that took us right back to childhood when we played almost every night with Dad.

I didn't take many pictures of all the delicious food we ate, but we feasted all weekend on lemon pancakes, breakfast casserole, brisket, smoked chicken, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, our family favorite "Jean's beans," potato salad, deviled eggs, pimento cheese macaroni and cheese, and peach cobbler.  YUM.  Oh, and I cannot forget the homemade popsicle selection - strawberry balsamic, peach, and watermelon.  Basically a pregnant girl's dream on a hot summer day!

It was such a great weekend full of much needed down time with some of my favorite people.  One definite highlight was seeing and squealing over the blankets and burp cloths my mom has been busy making for baby Betsy!  I love them so much!

And we picked up Betsy's first Beaufort Bonnet pajamas on our way out of town Friday, so we had to take those to show Mom and Mel!

We came back to Dallas on Monday the 4th and had a busy afternoon of stocking up on groceries for the week, yard work, and finally starting the overwhelming task that is putting together a baby registry.  So many options!

After a short work week, we woke up to devastating news in Dallas on Friday morning.  I was so shocked watching the scene unfold on the news last night just blocks from my office downtown.  The tragic loss of life is heartbreaking, scary, and just makes me so sad for our world.  Finding comfort in one of my favorite verses this morning - "I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."  Psalm 27:13-14

May & June

Only one month since my last post - that's an improvement!  In the last month I've continued to struggle in the picture taking department, but we've had lots of fun times with friends and family.

Mammo and Pop came to Dallas to visit us over Memorial Day Weekend, and what a weekend it was!  We went straight to Highland Park Cafeteria when they arrived on Saturday for a delicious lunch.  M&P had been there on a previous trip to Dallas, and we are so glad they introduced us to such a delightful old-school cafeteria in Dallas.  We are big cafeteria fans, and we've already been back once.

After lunch, we gave them the grand tour of our house and some of our favorite places near our neighborhood.  And we took naps!  A Saturday treat.

Austin stumbled upon an announcement of a Memorial Day concert by the Dallas Wind Symphony , which was right up M&P's alley, so we ventured out for a night of tunes.  The concert was held in a historical park near our house, and we popped in some of the historical buildings while we were waiting for the concert to start.  Mammo found an organ that was over 100 years old and even got to play it for a little while (she is a brilliant organist, so this was a treat for everyone!).

The concert ended up being SO fun and a perfect way to celebrate Memorial Day.  Mammo and Pop knew every single song that was played, and we all had a great time until my allergies got the best of me and we had to call it a night. (May in Dallas is so brutal for me - no idea why?!)

Sunday morning we all headed to church and enjoyed worshiping together and getting to introduce M&P to some of our Sunday school friends.  Knowing M&P's appreciation for good Chinese food, we knew we had to take them to a Dallas favorite, Royal China, for Sunday lunch.  We all ate so much delicious food and were completely stuffed and ready for another round of naps when we got home!

After a lazy afternoon, we capped off the night by playing Rummikub and snacking on chips and guacamole while Austin manned our fajitas on the grill.  We went the fajita bowl route and all somehow found our appetites again for supper.  We loved having Mammo and Pop here with us for a fun-filled couple of days!

Since Memorial Day we've hosted both our families for a fun gender reveal weekend (keep reading!), attended a fun wedding of some fellow Aggies in Fort Worth, and enjoyed hosting Mary Katherine for her last night in Texas before a six week mission trip to Seattle.

I totally failed to document the weekend with our families where we got to tell them that we're having a baby GIRL, but it was such a joyful time, and we cannot wait to meet baby Betsy in November!  The clothes shopping has begun, and I just can't get enough!

We laid low this weekend at home but are looking forward to celebrating all things red, white, and blue next weekend!  Fingers crossed I'll remember my camera...

April & May (so far)

Somehow two months have flown by since I last popped in here, but lots of fun spring activities have been filling up our calendar.

Most notably in April, I hosted a baby shower for my friend Lindsay to celebrate the upcoming arrival of baby Preston.  We had a great morning with a good group of girls from our Sunday school class and several members of Lindsay's sweet family.  Everyone is so excited to meet Preston in July!  Preston has a navy, white, and gray nursery with some darling elephant touches, so we ran with that for the shower.

homemade blueberry granola to stick with the navy color scheme

Hosting Lindsay's shower also lead me to one of my new favorite recipes - cheese straw tomato tartlets.  The quintessential summer shower food and so easy to make.  I savored every single one of those little guys that I had left over for the week following the shower!  We also had applesauce muffins, the best petit fours from Society Bakery, sugar cookies, sausage and grits casserole, and fruit salad.

There has been quite the baby boom in our Sunday school class recently - I attended a shower at Lindsay's house for another one of our friends yesterday morning.  Such a fun season!

We made sure to pack everything we could into the first weekend of May - celebrating my grandmother's birthday, my sister Melanie's birthday, a Kentucky Derby party, and seeing both of our families for Mother's Day.  It was a whirlwind trip across Texas but so worth it.  It was important for us to see both families in person that weekend to tell them our own big news... we are having a baby this fall!  Our families were so excited, and telling them was so so much fun!  We are all overjoyed and so very thankful.

We went to brunch on Saturday morning to celebrate Melanie and Mammo at a super cute restaurant that is within walking distance of Clark and Melanie's house in The Woodlands.

It was delicious and such a fun time with my family!  And apparently that was the only place I pulled out my camera that day...

After brunch I got to do a little shopping with my sisters before it was time for us to head to a fun Kentucky Derby party at some friends' house in Houston.  At the party, we found out about a few more Aggie babies coming this fall and got to catch up with some of our favorite Houston friends.  From the party, we hit the road to Austin to spend Sunday with Austin's family.

Sunday morning we got to tell Austin's family the exciting news, then we started preparing for a big family cookout that afternoon.  We had a yummy feast of burgers, hot dogs, and everything that goes with that delicious summertime meal and got in lots of good visiting time with our Austin family.

Since then we've been to a couples baby shower, a graduation party, hosted a cookout for some of Austin's co-workers, and had a ball sharing our baby news with friends.  This weekend we celebrated 5 years of marriage, and Austin totally outdid himself by planning a surprise staycation that resulted in the most relaxing weekend we've had in a while.  Sadly, I wasn't a very proactive picture taker this weekend, but we snapped a selfie on the way to our surprise destination and one pic of the great view from our room at the Omni.  We are looking forward to hosting my grandparents in Dallas for Memorial Day weekend, and I'm hoping to document it well for the blog!  Happy almost-summer!

things in my closet that fits right now!!)
