Happy Birthday & Happy Halloween

Here’s the lone pumpkin in my house today.  Well, I do also have some freshly baked pumpkin muffins that are going to work with me today, so the house is smelling mighty festive!

The pumpkin party on Sunday was super fun!  I’m a fan of the black and white.  One day when I have a porch, I think painting several of these with different patterns all in the monochromatic cream/black color scheme would be super cute.  And maybe I’ll take the extra time to stencil a monogram next year… black paint pen had to do for this year!

I didn’t get a blog post up yesterday, but it was my mom’s birthday, so happy birthday on the blog, Mom!  We love you!

Happy Halloween everyone, but more importantly in my book, let the Thanksgiving season begin!

We have two weddings to look forward to in November, one of which is my sister’s!  I can’t believe it will be here so soon.  I have an appointment tonight to get my bridesmaid dress altered, so fingers crossed that the alterations lady I’m going to see can work some magic because the dress is pretty ill-fitting at the moment.  I also took the liberty of making myself an “appointment” at NorthPark on Saturday to shop for a rehearsal dinner dress – can’t wait!

Hope y’all have a happy Halloween today!

Monday, Monday

Oh, College Station, I miss you so!  Austin and I loved getting to make a trip to Aggieland on Friday to visit THE Texas A&M University with Mary K and my parents.  I think she liked it!  A Friday wandering around College Station always trumps a Friday at work in my book.

We walked all over campus, went on a dorm tour, and even ate at Sbisa – yum.  Other highlights included the century tree, Sweet Eugene’s, and spending some time in the newly renovated MSC.

Back in Dallas, on Saturday I had my Junior League bus tour.  It took most of the day, but I learned so much about several of the JL agencies.  I really saw parts of Dallas that I had no idea even existed – it was very eye opening.  We had a quiet night in on Saturday and cooked a tasty fall supper.  I even managed to choke down half of a sweet potato, so I’m calling that win!

Today was church and pumpkin painting!  My pumpkin is still drying and I haven’t even snapped a pic of it yet, but I will have to show you later this week.  And to top off the fall feel of the weekend, tonight I made chili for the first time this year.  Can y’all believe that it will be November at the end of this week?

Five on Friday– Vol. 13

After missing last Friday, it’s good to be back into my Friday posting routine and linking up with A.Liz Adventures, Carolina Charm, The Good Life, and Hello Happiness today.  A happy little part of my week is that yesterday was actually my “Friday,” and I’m on my way to College Station right now for a college visit with my youngest sister, Mary Katherine.  Four day weeks are the best weeks!

ONE

Aggieland

Aggieland!  Considering I haven’t even been to a game this fall, it will be fun to see my family in one of my favorite places today.  Can’t wait to show it all to MK and see these people!

Last week, Austin and I made what may very well be my new favorite supper creation – homemade Chipotle burrito bowls!  Chipotle is one of my go-to’s on the rare days when I don’t bring lunch to work.  I love me a burrito bowl.  Into ours went grilled flank steak, cilantro brown rice, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, salsa, cheese, and sautéed bell peppers and onions.  So delicious.  Austin had leftovers all weekend when I was out of town for Mel’s showers.   It was a fun meal to cook together after work on a week night.  We marinated the steak all day, then Austin was in charge of grilling it and sautéing the veggies while I chopped and prepped our other toppings and made the rice.  It came together very quickly, and we both loved it!

FOUR

Hill, a sweet blogger who lives in my beloved Mississippi, nominated me for a blog award recently, and I’m just now getting my act together to share my seven random facts – thank you Hill!

Versatile Blogger Award

  • I refuse to use the calendar app on my iPhone.  I love my planner, and I simply cannot convert to any other way of keeping track of my life.  Can’t do it!
  • In that same old-fashioned vein, I like writing checks instead of using a credit or debit card.  I have some chip on my shoulder about using a card sometimes – who knows why!
  • I don’t love chevron.  Blogger blasphemy, I know!
  • Even though we live smack dab in the middle of a huge metroplex now, one day I secretly kind of want to live in the middle of no-where.  Or at least somewhere with a giant porch and a yard big enough that I don’t have to see other houses/people.
  • I want to like sweet potatoes REALLY bad.  As of right now, I don’t care for them at all, but I really want to enjoy them, so I’m trying to convince myself I do like them.  Stay tuned… I’m fixing them to go with our supper tomorrow night.
  • Online shopping is not my favorite… I’ll even go as far as saying that it really isn’t even a temptation for me.  I prefer trying clothes on in the store and walking out with them that very day.  I’m sure I’m in a tiny minority of people, but it just doesn’t appeal to me.
  • I like to think that one of my secret talents is that I can find books of the Bible really quickly – must have been all that Bible drill when I was little!

Please play along and leave me your link!  I love reading these about other people.

FIVE

All I want to do this weekend in my downtime is hunker down with my magazines and library books.  I have a new BHG, a new Southern Living, and two library books that are just calling to me from my favorite comfy chair.  Hopefully I can squeeze in some reading time in the next couple of days!

Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere!

I don’t know if y’all have noticed, but there is a full on pumpkin obsession that is sweeping the nation.  To be completely honest, I’m a little over it.  I enjoy a pump of pumpkin spice (a pump of pump!) in my latte around this time of year, and the occasional pumpkin bread or pumpkin pancakes, but that’s about it.  I haven’t even made it to Ruibal’s (best pumps in Dallas!) this year to pick up any actual pumpkins yet.  This Saturday I do plan to remedy that.

Last year I enjoyed having a few of the Cinderella pumpkins and some mini gourds scattered around during the fall, and I plan to do something similar this year.

On Sunday afternoon, one of my co-workers and friends is hosting a little pumpkin painting party, so I’m also going to pick up a pump for that.  Here are some pumpkin ideas that I’m loving for fall/Thanksgiving.  Personally, I’m not a huge fan of Halloween or decorating for it, so I prefer to just go with more of a fall theme that works from September – November.

My friend Caitlyn at Home Sweet Ruby recently posted a super cute pumpkin that she made with chalk paint, and I’m thinking of giving that a try on Sunday – we’ll see!

Are you in or out on the pumpkin-everything craze?  Happy hump pump day!

Home Again, Home Again

I’m back from another weekend full of showers celebrating Mel and the upcoming wedding.  Missing the 5 on Friday party was an unintended consequence of rushing around Friday morning so I could leave straight from work Friday afternoon.  I was so sad to miss it!  I really enjoy blogging consistently at least three times a week, but some weeks that just isn’t feasible for me.  Hoping this week will allow for it!

On Friday evening, I headed to my parent’s house in east Texas and got there in time to catch a little bit of the homecoming football game and see Mary Katherine cheer.  It was probably my last time to see her cheer there since she is a senior and I think there is only one home game left.  Mom and I were both fading fast as the game went on, so we didn’t make it through the whole game, and we went home after half time to get a few things ready for our day on Saturday.

Saturday morning we left bright and early to head to Ruston for Mel’s shower that morning.  She opened gifts before the shower officially started so that everything could be displayed at the shower itself, and she was in the middle of opening when we got there.  She got so many pretty things, and it is always good to be back in Ruston and see familiar faces!

After the Ruston shower, Mammo fixed a lunch of soup and sandwiches for us. She also made us these cute little petite desserts.  After a quick lunch, we headed to Shreveport to pick up Mel’s dress and take it to the alterations place for a fitting.  This was my first time seeing the dress in person and it is absolutely beautiful!  She is wearing a birdcage veil, which is going to be so perfect with her hair and the dress – the whole thing is just going to be amazing!  I can’t wait.

IMG_2699

After Shreveport, we headed back home to Texas and only made one more stop on our trip – supper at Newk’s where I was thrilled to get my favorite salad.

IMG_2701

Sunday morning the weather was feeling extra fall-ish, so we made pumpkin pancakes and cinnamon apples for a late breakfast.  So delicious.  The best part of my weekend was getting to sit on the back porch Sunday morning in perfect fall weather with Mom and both sisters and visit – such a treat! Before we knew it, it was time to head to Sunday’s shower that afternoon.

IMG_2706

The ladies that hosted this shower had everything fixed so cute, and I just wanted to take a million pictures of all the cute decorations.  More beautiful gifts were opened, and Samantha (Mel’s future sister-in-law) took some pictures of us as Mel was opening her gifts.

Both showers were so fun and so lovely, and I’m very thankful I got to spend the weekend with my family celebrating Mel.  I can’t believe that the next time I see her will be in November on wedding weekend!

And now, I’m home again, home again, at least until November, and missing my family already!

Mel’s First Shower

My sister’s wedding festivities have officially begun!  We went to Ruston this weekend for me to attend her first shower and for Mel and Clark’s engagement party.  Both were wonderful, and I’m so glad we got to be there!  I had my camera out at the shower but never took it out of my purse at the engagement party, so I have pictures of about half of what we did that day.  I just had too much visiting to do at the engagement party to be bothered with pictures, but know it was beautiful!  I almost wish I had taken some pictures because the house of the hosts was so gorgeous – magazine worthy for sure.

But, back to the shower!  It was given by several ladies of Clark’s church.  We missed Mary Katherine so much – she wasn’t able to come on Saturday but will be at next weekend’s shower, thank goodness.

IMG_2677

All three of my grandmothers were there, but I only managed to get a picture with two of them.

Mel with the mothers, grandmothers, and sisters – we are all so excited for November!

IMG_2672

I was busy writing down the gifts while she was opening them, but I had to take a pic of a few of my favorites.  She got so many pretty pretty things!  I’ve never seen so many cloth napkins and pretty tea towels.  She is going to have some majorly gorg tablescapes.  I definitely had some linen envy going on.

IMG_2660  IMG_2662

I MUST have that juicer.  I have this same color Le Cruset, but I had not seen that precious little guy until her shower.  I totally need one!  If you know Mel, then you know that giant turtle tray makes total sense.

It was a great first shower, and she has two more coming up this weekend – can’t wait for those!  I’ll bombard y’all with more shower pics and gifts that I want for myself next week.

Five on Friday

Happy Friday!  I’m so thrilled to report that our renovations are COMPLETE and we even started moving things back where they belong last night.  Woo hoo!  Also, it’s Friday, which is always always exciting.  This fun link-up with April, Darci, Natasha, and Christina is just another reason to love Fridays.

ONE – Our apartment upgrades are finished, and we are thrilled with the results!  It feels like a whole new space.  Things are slowly getting put back in their rightful place, thank goodness.

TWO – Tomorrow is my sister Melanie’s first wedding shower.  I can’t wait to see her and the rest of my family and celebrate.  We’re also attending an engagement party for Mel and her fiancé Clark tomorrow evening, so it will be a day full of celebrating their upcoming wedding.

THREE – Austin and I were walking and doing some window shopping in an outdoor shopping area in Dallas one evening earlier this week, and I had to practice some serious restraint at Banana Republic.  I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since – they have so much cute cute stuff right now.  Lots of good fall staples for work that.  I’m dying to go back and try some of it on and actually get to shop and not just look.  I’m sure Austin’s just dying for me to do that too…

FOUR – On a whim at the grocery store last weekend, we picked up some Wickles Pickles, and wow, they are so good!  New favorite pickle.  Getcha some if you are a pickle lover like we are.

FIVE – Yesterday, I was out and about at some hearings for work, and this sweet old couple came up to me and absolutely made my day – really, they made my whole week!  They told me I should “be one of those girls on Fox News – you know they are all so pretty girls and they all have those law degrees.”  It was precious.  And that has pretty much been a secret dream of mine since I was in high school, so I was just tickled.  I think they thought my outfit was “Fox News Approved.”  And I do have blonde hair… I told them Megyn Kelly was my favorite and they said her new show is just wonderful.  I haven’t watched yet but want to soon!
