Possum Kingdom, You Were a Fun Time

Our recipe for a successful weekend like this one included good friends, good food, and the girls dominating the boys in every game we played.  I didn’t take a whole lot of pictures, but we stayed at a beautiful house in PK and had a wonderful time relaxing.  This was our view from the giant porch at the house where we stayed.  Looks a lot different than Dallas!  You can’t really see that well in this picture, but it was very hilly out there.

We started the weekend on Friday evening when we all got to town by going to a local restaurant called Boon Docks… we stuck out like sore thumbs, and I think every person there turned and stared at us when we walked in.  I will try to paint an adequate picture of the hilarious scene that was Boon Docks – just think about the scene in Sweet Home Alabama when Melanie goes home and goes to the bar in her hometown.  We were basically in that scene.  Karaoke was going full force, there was a table full of middle-aged women next to us wearing matching bedazzled hats that got up and sang Reba’s “Fancy” at some point, and there was at least one very pregnant woman there who was playing pool.  There was also a man with one eye who stared us down the whole time we were there, and I’m pretty sure we were the only people there without multiple visible tattoos.  It was a hoot!  We didn’t even talk because we were all too distracted by the glorious people watching to be had around us.

After our dinner at Boon Docks, we played several rounds of Catchphrase and some Apples to Apples.  Those are two of my very favorite games to play with a group.  The girls won every round of catchphrase, and yours truly was victorious in Apples to Apples!  Carly gave me and Austin the “bird room” for the weekend – I forgot to take a picture, but there were two cute bird canvases on the wall, and Carly knows my love of birds, so I was pretty excited about that. Smile

Day two in PK held some lake time and some pool time, and we definitely enjoyed our boat snacks, courtesy of Austin.

We grilled and celebrated Billy’s birthday on Saturday night, and then we followed that up with the girls dominating the boys at Battle of the Sexes!

There was some un-pictured cookie dough that followed this meal… I think someone did make cookies out of part of it, but ain’t nobody got time for that!  Cookie dough > actual cookies.

I wish I could have adequately captured the beautiful sunsets – so pretty.  Thanks, Billy & Carly, for having us and for a great weekend!
