My New Favorite Place in Dallas

We had such a great weekend visit with my grandparents here in Dallas.  The weather seemed like it was not going to cooperate and allow us to visit the Dallas Arboretum like we had originally planned, but luckily by Saturday afternoon things cleared up and we were able to go!  I have been dying to visit the Arboretum ever since we moved to Dallas, and the weather has kept me away once before.  It is absolutely gorgeous, and I’m kicking myself for not making a visit there happen before now!  I went way overboard with pictures and took far too many, but I just had to include some of my favorites here.

Sorry for the picture overload, but I have sooo many more I could post too!  I couldn’t get enough.  Is it odd that I want to go here every single day of spring?  I’m so happy that warm temperatures are finally returning to Dallas after an annoying cold snap this weekend – just in time for my sleeveless Easter dress this weekend.  Happy Easter week!

Things I’m Loving Today

I finally got all of my birthday plants from my sisters planted, and I’m loving the way those little guys look out on my porch!

These pajamas have been calling to me every time I’ve been to Target recently… I finally broke down and came home with them  yesterday.  I don’t remember the last time I bought new pajamas, and I’m probably a little more excited about them than I should be!

While digging around in my closet this weekend, I found this “painting” I did at Easely Amused in Jackson… I thought it looked fun and spring-y, so I brought it out and propped it up on my dresser for the time being.

And something I’m really excited about is that my grandparents are coming to visit me this weekend!  I can’t wait for them to get here.  We are planning to go to the Arboretum if the weather cooperates on Saturday.  I have been dying to go ever since we moved to Dallas almost two years ago, so my fingers are crossed that we make it happen on Saturday.

Spring at Mom’s

One of the main things I look forward to in the future when we live in a house is more space to decorate!  Right now, I just don’t have that many good spots to put seasonal decorations.  This may come as a shock to those who know me, but I have amassed quite the collection of birds, nests, and other spring-y décor over the years… and some of it just doesn’t have a spot in our current apartment.

The next best thing to decorating my own apartment would have to be the decorations at Mom’s house!  I love all of her pretty spring touches.

I spy a Wolfe bird!  And, I was this close to taking this wooden bunny home with me.

The nest centerpiece in the dining room might just be my very favorite.  Fun fact about that nest – we used it to hold the tiny bags of birdseed at our wedding reception.  The Wolfe bird in the above picture was at our wedding, too!

Happy spring!

The End of Birthday Week

Thursday was such a fun day!  I think the best part was feeling so loved by all of my family and friends.  For as much as a time-suck as Facebook generally is, I do love it on birthdays.  Anyone who has read the blog before probably knows that I love me some cards, so getting cute cards in the mail is another birthday perk that I have enjoyed this week.

Clearly, my friends and family know me well and know what I like!  I got three of this precious card for my birthday.  Haha!

I definitely ate like a queen all day – Austin made me a delicious breakfast at home (and I got to use my new cute birthday glasses!), my BFF Katey took me to lunch at a precious little café and we had some tasty chicken salad, and we went to one of my faves – Cane Rosso – for supper.  I was very full at the end of the day!

I adore this caprese salad.  I definitely picked our dinner restaurant because of this plate right here.  So tasty.

Let’s see… two more fun birthday tidbits I found documented on my phone are my birthday mani with my new polish and the leather tassels on my birthday bag from Austin.  Obsessed!

I am thankful for another year of life and can’t wait to see what lies ahead.

Birthday Breakfast

Sunday morning we had a little birthday celebration before we all left to go our separate ways.  I completely forgot a picture of the scrumptious breakfast, but it included french toast, cheese grits, peppered bacon cooked in the oven, and my favorite coffee (aka the coffee that my parents make at home).  I opened up an absolutely precious card and some fun gifts after we ate.

My mom found some precious bumblebee glasses at a local thrift shop a while back, and I have always adored them.  Now, I have some of my own!

I am pretty excited about the nail polish as well, and I have big plans for a manicure on my couch tonight so I can be sporting pretty light pink nails for my actual birthday tomorrow.

And rounding out the presents was the perfect gift for me – a monogrammed stamp.  I see some card making in my future this weekend.  I’m so thankful I got to have a birthday celebration with my family so close to my actual birthday!

My sisters also gave me some herbs and plants that are still in the process of being put into pots on my porch.  I’m so excited to have pretty things to fill my porch pots and praying I can keep them alive!

Weekend-O-Fun

We had such a great weekend packed with so many fun activities!  Friday night we had an “Ultimate Date Nite” at our church for the young marrieds department with a DJ, tons of good food, and a dance-off.  Austin just narrowly lost the dance off, and I’m still just a little bitter about the fact that he stayed in longer than I did.

IMG_1563

I didn’t take too many pictures Friday night because we were too busy dancing and fellowshipping…and it was pretty dark in there!  We love our Sunday school class so much, and it was also fun to get to see other church friends from different classes since we were all in one place on Friday.  The committee for this event did such a great job!

Saturday morning we were up bright and early to head to Livingston to my parents’ house!  I had not been there since Christmas- way too long for my liking.  We stopped at the golden arches for oatmeal, which has become somewhat of a road trip tradition for us.

IMG_1572

We also worked on our 30 days devotional and had some great early morning conversation.

IMG_1574

We made great time and were so happy to be in Livingston for our visit.  Melanie and her boyfriend, Clark, got there shortly after we did, and it was just so fun having everyone all together.  Dad grilled burgers for lunch (the best!) and Mom fixed potato salad and baked beans… and pimento cheese for the burgers – so good!  We also had my favorite birthday dessert, lemon icebox pie.  I loved every bite and was SO FULL the rest of the day.

IMG_1600

After our delicious lunch, my and my sisters- and the boys- got ready to head to Houston for the rodeo!  We were in two vehicles, a little unsure about the parking situation, and none of us live in Houston, so getting there was an adventure, but we managed to make it!

IMG_1608

Guess who kept score during all the rodeo events?  Only Austin…

IMG_1613

IMG_1619

We were there for The Band Perry concert, which was great, but I mainly just loved getting to do something with both sisters since we all live in different cities and rarely get to do things like this.

IMG_1621

It was quite windy down in Houston that night.  After the concert, we satisfied Mary Katherine’s roasted corn craving and Clark’s need for a turkey leg then headed back to Livingston for the night.

The next morning we celebrated my birthday, but I’ll save that for tomorrow’s post!
