Tank Goodness Pics

Austin and I stayed up way too late last night looking at all the pictures Nina posted on her photography website from our session with her over Thanksgiving!  Here’s one of my favorites, and here are the rest

Thanks, Nina – these are wonderful!!  I feel so lucky to have such a good photographer in the family.

I’m thankful to see Friday, as usual, and looking forward to wrapping some presents, doing some Christmas shopping, and enjoying our tree this weekend.  Happy almost weekend to all!

Our Christmas Tree

This past Sunday, after we made it back to Dallas from our Thanksgiving travels, we were bound and determined to get our Christmas tree up and decorated.  For the second year in a row, we headed to Ruibal’s at the Dallas Farmer’s Market and got a great looking tree.  We don’t have an artificial tree simply because we have no where to store it in our apartment, but now that we’ve had a real tree for two years in a row, I think it will be hard for me to ever adjust to not having that wonderful Christmas tree smell fill the living room this time of year!   For now I am squarely on team real tree.

We had a few random strands of lights from last year that had sections that were not working, so lighting the tree took a little bit of trial and error.

Finally it was time for the fun part – ornaments!  We purchased a good many ornaments last year for our first Christmas tree, and we mainly re-used things I had accumulated in law school and the ones we purchased last year.  My favorite things on the tree are the little nests with cardinals in them, of course!

And on top, we have what Austin affectionately refers to as the “berry blast.”

Here’s the finished product just waiting for presents to be added!

We decided to start a tradition of adding one Old World Christmas ornament to our tree each year.  Last year, appropriately, we got the wedding cake ornament for our first Christmas as a married couple.  This year, to celebrate our first year of having season tickets and all of the Aggie games we’ve gone to, we got a Texas A&M ornament.  I love them both, and I’m excited to add a new one for every year to come!

Off to enjoy my second cup of coffee in the living room by the tree!

Thanksgiving 2012

We spent our Thanksgiving with my wonderful in-laws in Austin this year.  Austin’s cousin Nina took some family portraits on Friday – I can’t wait to see how they turned out!  Her website is, and she and her husband Travis are AMAZING photographers.

We had a great time in Austin, tons of food, and all around it was just a wonderful holiday.  We also got to celebrate Courtney & Tyler’s engagement, and it was fun to talk about their upcoming wedding!

My contribution to our feast was corn casserole, these two pies, and cranberry relish.  Everything got eaten, so I’ll take that as a good sign.  Austin even had the brilliant idea to heat the pecan pie up a little bit and top it with Bluebell vanilla ice cream… TDF!
Nina and Travis (the photographers) have a PRECIOUS daughter, Ameila.  She was so fun to play with all day on Thanksgiving.  Austin and I both tried to entertain her as best as we could, but she was pretty much just obsessed with going up and down the stairs allll day.

After our huge meal, we all went to a park in the neighborhood and played whiffle ball and freeze tag. I really wish I had some pictures of that!  My team beat Austin’s team, so it was a good time.Smile
On Friday, my father in law Buddy challenged me to a chili cook-off, and we had fun trash talking in the kitchen most of the afternoon.  I can be just a little bit competitive, so I was pretty pleased with myself for "winning" our little competition.
Hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  1 Thessalonians 4: 16-18

Wishing everyone a very happy Thanksgiving today!  I hope we all remember to whom we are giving thanks.

Quick Weekend OOTD

Even though it wasn’t that cold yesterday, I couldn’t resist wearing my cozy new cape.  I’m kind of obsessed with how chunky and warm this thing is, and I can’t wait for another chance to wear it.  Maybe it might make an appearance at Thanksgiving.

OH, and one more piece of very exciting news – my sister-in-law Courtney got engaged on Friday!!  Congratulations Courtney – can’t wait to celebrate and see your new sparkly addition at Thanksgiving!

Today I’m especially thankful for a short work week – hope y’all have a good Monday.

Happy Birthday & Happy Friday

First things first, happy birthday to my most wonderful littlest sister, Mary Katherine!  She had a fun party last night with some of her friends that included seeing the midnight showing of Twilight, and I so wish I could have been there.  Happy Birthday, MK!  Love you so much.

Also, PTL it is Friday. I am so ready for the weekend and for some uninterrupted time on Saturday to knock out a few things on my ever-growing to do list. Fingers crossed that the day flies by!

Saturday in Cowtown

Yesterday I had a commitment in Fort Worth in the morning, and we had plans to watch the Aggie game with our Fort Worth friends in the afternoon, so we ended up just making a day of it. And what a great day it was – GIG ‘EM AGGIES!  More on that amazing game in a minute… before that we had lunch at Tim Love’s restaurant Woodshed Smokehouse on the Trinity River.  It reminded me a lot of the Katy Trail Ice House here in Dallas, but it was a really fun atmosphere for a fall Saturday, and we loved the food.

such a cute lunch date

Austin ordered this confit potato salad and elk sausage.  Little fun fact about Austin – if there is wild game on the menu, he WILL order it.  I actually tried a few bites and it was pretty tasty.  It also came with homemade mustard and homemade pickles.

And I had a baked potato topped with chopped beef.  It was quite good!

And then, our afternoon and evening were spent pacing/yelling/hollering/screaming/jumping up and down as we watched the A&M vs. Alabama game.  What a perfect day to be an Aggie.  I just can’t believe we won that game.  Seeing A&M get so much national recognition and attention is just the best!

And one for Ryan Swope – we love him and he had such a good game!

Happy Sunday, peeps – I’m off to take a nap!

Weekend Recap

It seems that the only picture I took this weekend was this plate of biscuits from our Sunday morning breakfast.  That’d probably be a big fat blogger fail.  We did have a great weekend, and most of our time was spent at church from Friday – Sunday.

Friday night we had a dinner with our Sunday school class at church followed by a Kristian Stanfill and Christy Nockels concert.  Both were very fun!

Saturday morning we were up bright and early to head back to church for a First Impressions Ministry Conference.  We had a speaker from Indiana who has written several books on the topic, and we learned a lot!  We were only a tiny bit distracted by trying to keep up with the score of the A&M/Mississippi State game.  Thanks to our iPhones, we were able to keep tabs on our Aggies and were so happy with the big win!

After a little bit of down time at home, we went over to Katey and Casey’s house to have supper and watch the Alabama/LSU game.  They fixed some delicious fajitas, and Katey made banana pudding… soooo good!  It was great to get to catch up with those two, and we always love spending time with them.  Also, LSU losing was a little bit sweet thanks to my bitter memories of this guy.  But, I do still love all of my LSU friends (Em, Sue Ann, and Deanna – talking to you three nice, sweet little tigers)!

We enjoyed an early morning run on Sunday and finally got a chance to see the new Klyde Warren park in Dallas.  I can’t wait to go back when it is light outside. Smile

Sunday morning at FBCD was great as usual, and we stopped by Whole Foods for lunch after church.  After a productive afternoon, we went back to church for an awesome Sunday evening service.  I wish I had a CD of the music that the choir sang last night because it was absolutely amazing!

Hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for the week ahead! Have a great Monday.

You Might be Married to a Hunter if…

… If you come home from work to find his new duck decoys “hiding” all over your apartment.  Oh, and another telltale sign would be the abundance of hunting paraphernalia in your living room.  Let me just walk you through the scene I stumbled upon when I got home from work yesterday.

Here we have Mr. Mallard hiding under my desk:

Mr. & Mrs. Mallard in the corner of the breakfast area:

Oh, just some widgeons lounging on the floor near my closet:

A couple of gadwalls in my bathtub…

And to round things off, two green winged teal perched on a sofa table in the living room:

Oh, and the hunting purse makes another appearance!  Just another day in the life of a hunter’s wife.  What a glorious day it will be when we have a house with a garage for all of these fun toys.
