Happy Birthday, Mom

Mom, the happiest of birthdays I wish to you!

We share a favorite color, that’d be blue.

So many things about us are the same -

we go to sleep early and share a middle name.

Thank you for the lessons you’ve taught me all my life.

You’ve taught me to cook and to be a good wife.

We talk on the phone almost every single day.

I usually need to know how to do something “the right” way.

You’re an expert on that and many other things as well.

I love the monthly cards you send in the mail.

I’m very very thankful for all the things you do,

so happy happy birthday, I love you!

My Love Affair With Paper Source Continues

Every time Austin and I are both involved in hanging anything on the wall, I swear up and down I will never do it again.  I’m happy to report that we are still married AND some of our walls got some much needed attention this weekend. We have a kind of awkward wall in our kitchen that I have been struggling to get decorated ever since we moved in to our apartment.  Well, wouldn’t you know, this delightful calendar from my favorite store ever (Paper Source), gave me just the push I needed to get this wall done.

This $4 map also came home with me on my latest trip to paper heaven, and I have been itching to get it up on the wall in our bathroom.  I adore maps, and this little nook above our hampers was the perfect spot for this little guy.

Sometimes it is hard to believe we’ve lived in our apartment for almost a year and a half.  Of course, there is always another project on my list for our space here, so I can’t even begin to imagine the  length of that list once we buy a house!  For the sake of our marriage, I wonder if we can hire someone to hang everything for us when the day comes to do that in a house?  Haha!

Weekend Bits

Finally, a weekend in Dallas!  As happy as I am for the #16 Aggies, I was pretty fired up to avoid another weekend of travel and not be attending the game this weekend.  It is amazing how much I’ve come to appreciate a weekend at home.

Pumpkin oats have been enjoyed both weekend mornings…

I made it to Ikea on Saturday morning and followed that up with a detour through what has to be the world’s largest strip center.  Seriously I got lost in all of the malls/strip centers congregated together in Frisco!  The highlight of Saturday was lunch with my Grandmother and her friend, Ida Jean.  We loved getting to visit with them and catch up on life!

Me & GJ – can you tell we are related?

The Super Target in the maze of strip malls had some really good things.  I walked away with leopard pants, an emerald green blouse, and a pair of earrings.  Lately I have become completely obsessed with earrings.  Earlier this week I broke down and bought the white Kendra Scott Danielle earrings I have been eyeing for quite some time.  If you look hard enough, you can spot them in the above picture with my GJ.

Contrast my recent purchases with one of Austin’s… I present to you what I can only refer to as a hunting purse:

And yes, it is loaded up and ready to go.  We also have SEVERAL other items of hunting paraphernalia scattered around the apartment just waiting to be debuted when duck season opens on November 3 (why do I even know that?!).  The joys of marriage!

Hope you have all had fantastic weekends.

A Pinterest Recipe & Some Thursday Tidbits

Tuesday night after work we cooked this pasta dish for supper.  It was creamy and delicious but not too heavy.  Several nights during the week we are running around and eating at different times, so it was nice to both come home, cook a meal together (Austin is a great sous chef!), and relax.  I originally found the recipe on Pinterest – seriously, what did we do without Pinterest?

Tasty stuff!

The week is flying by for me, as usual.  We have two flag football games tonight, and I think tomorrow might be the night I take Austin here to stalk Lisa Garza eat a bucket of tasty fried chicken.

What I am really looking forward to this weekend is a visit with my Grandmother!  She will be in the area this weekend, and we have lunch plans on Saturday – can’t wait to see her and hear about her latest adventures.  She is an LSU fan though, so as long as we don’t talk about last week’s football game, we should be fine…

I also have a trip to Ikea planned this weekend for some frames… stay tuned for some Paper Source goodies on my walls soon!

Let’s Get Some Shoes

Last Wednesday I threw my current pair of black pumps in the trash can.  They were just in awful shape, and I knew that would be quite the motivation for getting a new pair.  After nearly a week of brown shoes and avoiding all the black in my closet, I have GOT to replace the black ones today.  These are what I need and will be purchasing…

While looking for these on Piperlime this morning, I discovered they are having a 20% off deal today only!  If anyone else is needing shoes today, that might be a good place to look.

These are the want list:

          Women's Mossimo® Vira Shootie - Assorted Colors

That last one is called a “shootie.”  I want is just because the name is so funny!

Another Maroon & White Weekend

Our weekend felt pretty familiar: we were with Jaime & Emily for what I think was the third weekend in a row, and we were in the stands at (another) Aggie football game.  The Ags put us through a heartbreaking loss to LSU, but we had a good time in College Station as always!  Jaime’s wonderful parents hosted us Friday night, and we are so thankful for their sweet hospitality.  We also got to see some of our friends tailgating after the game, and since we haven’t had a wedding in a few weeks, it was nice to catch up with them. Winking smile

While it was definitely sad to lose to the swamp kitties, one of their fans did provide us some entertainment in our section… I think he really would have faired better had he been sitting around a larger crowd of LSU fans, but he insisted on trying to get the “Geaux Tigers” chant going from his seat SEVERAL rows down and away from the main area designated for LSU fans.  This cheer is basically half of the LSU fans yelling “Go” and the other half yelling “Tigers.”  This guy would stand up and waive his hands and yell “Go” and maybe one or two people would reply because there just weren’t that many around.  Well finally, the smart Ags that we are surrounded by in our section wised up and got in on the fun.  When he would yell “Go,” several people in our section started bellowing “HOME.”  It was so funny!  Surely we were not the first annoyed losing team to think of that, but, I mean, who really thinks they can out-yell a stadium of 80,000+?!

I actually was glad the game was at 11am on Saturday as that meant we got to come back to Dallas on Saturday and have the entire day Sunday to be here and gear up for the week.  Most of our day was spent at church, but it was a great relaxing Sunday, and we even got to see my Dad for a brief visit as he was passing through Dallas.  Our preacher is doing two really wonderful series right now – one in the morning where he preaches on answers to life’s 7 most important questions and one in the evening on the book of Daniel.  I am especially loving the Daniel study – it is so very fascinating.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and has a great Monday today!  I am picking up the ingredients for a couple of new recipes that I’m excited to try this week – maybe they will be blog-worthy.

just a pop in

My blogging has taken a serious hit this week, and the only explanation I have for that is just that we have had something going on almost every evening after work this week.  This week has definitely been one where the blog is on the back burner.  I have missed not posting more frequently, but we are leaving for our last “travel weekend” for Aggie football for a while today, so I foresee more down time and more blogging in my future!

I’ll leave you with some random funnies from Pinterest:

hahaha YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha :)

I’m off to pack my lunch – happy Friday!

Catching Up After the Weekend

As much as I love football season, the weekends full of traveling don’t leave much time for regular weekend catching up on much of anything.  I am still recovering from our whirlwind trip to Shreveport this past weekend, so please forgive me for my unintended five day absence from blogging!

Rewinding all the way back to Friday night, we went to a movie night at church and saw October Baby.  I highly recommend it – great movie.

Saturday morning was spent packing and getting ready for our trip to Louisiana.  We picked up our wonderful friends Jaime and Emily and headed to lunch in Dallas before hitting the road.  After some tasty food at Garden Café, we hit the road.  This restaurant was a great little find.  I can’t wait to go back and sit on the back porch in the actual garden they have!

Once we made it to Shreveport, we immediately made a quick stop at Bass Pro (Austin’s version of heaven) before meeting my parents for an early bird special supper.  I was probably a little too worried that it would be hard to get a table at a restaurant due to the game.  A friend of my parents recommended a place in Shreveport, and I called to make us a reservation at 5:00 and was thankful we got a table!  Not to worry, we were the only people in the restaurant when we showed up and for a good 45 minutes after that… Thank goodness we had that reservation, haha!

Then we were off to a MARATHON of a football game.  As in, the first five hour football game of my life.  So epic and crazy and tiring!  I am officially NOT a fan of the 8:00 kick off.  That crazy game did not end until basically 1:00am.  That is about four hours after my preferred bed time.  Combine that with the heart attack that the Ags gave me in the fourth quarter, and it was just a stressful night.

Even though the majority of my family sitting on the other side of the stadium was not quite as happy with the outcome of the game, it was great to see my family and to see another Aggie victory!  Now we are gearing up for LSU this weekend.

Hope y’all are having a great week so far.

Thursday Things

Yesterday was important for 2 reasons:

1. My first blog post ever was one year ago on October 10, 2011, and

2. It was my LSBFF Emily’s birthday!  Happy Birthday, Em!  LY!  We kind of have a thing for abbreves…

One other good thing that happened this week was that I got my October card in the mail from Mom – love it! For a person who is not that big on Halloween, I think it is pretty darn festive and cute.

Austin brought me these beauties earlier this week – love him.

I’m also loving my new darker and shorter hair for fall… this is not the BEST picture, but I am sure a better one will pop up on here sometime soon.

We are off to a flag football game tonight.  Our team has legitimate plays that scare me just a tad.  I am hoping I don’t run into anyone!

What a random post this has been.

Happy Thursday to y’all!

Praying for this family today.

While I certainly don’t have a blog that reaches millions of people, I hope that whoever it does reach today will take a minute to say a prayer for this family

Fall Centerpiece

If you read this post, you will quickly see that my fall table is basically a blatant copy of my mom’s dining table.  As both of my sisters like to {constantly} remind us, we are pretty much the same person.

I finally found the pumpkins I wanted at the Farmers Market on Saturday, and ever since I put this together on the table I let out a tiny squeal each time I walk by.

        IMG_0909  IMG_0913

This little guy is obviously my favorite.  I die over that little curly cue on the stem!

Thanks for the ideas, Mom!  I will be loving this festive table until late-November.  Hopefully Mom has a Christmas plan for her table that I can copy after Thanksgiving…

I also found this tiny pumpkin vase filler at Target yesterday that I think looks pretty cute in this lantern.

The apartment is fully decked out for fall at this point, and we will be thoroughly enjoying the fall coziness until it is time to decorate for Christmas!

Duck Stew & an Aggie Win!

The weather in Dallas this weekend has been AMAZING.  Having coffee on the porch on Saturday morning was such a perfect way to start the weekend.  I was in such a good mood from the cool fall weather that I let Austin dirty up the kitchen cooking duck all afternoon.

Thankfully the kitchen is clean now, and he is happy as a lark to have his duck that he “harvested from the earth” to eat on all week.  Suffice it to say, we both had a productive Saturday that ended with the sweetest Aggie victory yet!  WHOOP!  {pic}

We watched the game with friends and ohmygosh it was so stressful.  I still can’t believe we won!  Being an Aggie fan can sometimes be heart-breaking, but last night’s win was just the best.  #bthoOleMiss

Cutest Fort Worth friends!

Now that the new rankings are out, I am so nervous/excited for the A&M/LA Tech game.  Considering everyone in my entire family has pretty much gone to one of the two schools, this game is such a fun one for me.  We are making the trip to Shreveport with our friends Jaime & Emily, and my family will be there on Saturday too!  This is the first time when we have had Tech on our schedule that I have legitimately been worried they might win.  Of course I’ll be cheering for the Ags, but Tech is hands down my second favorite football team, and I am excited for how well they are doing this season.
