VLOG: How I Fix My Hair

Well, I finally convinced Austin to video me fixing my hair for a vlog.  It ended up being FOURTEEN minutes long, so I apologize for that!  I totally did not realize I was quite so chatty – you might need popcorn to make it through this thing.  Hopefully this makes sense, and if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.  Also, the lighting is not the best, so bear with us!

More Cards!

I had my second stamping class at church last night, and this morning I made some envelope liners for all of my stamp class cards.  This is something I have blogged about before, but I really think adding the colorful paper inside the envelope takes the cards to a whole new level.  Ever since I discovered this little trick, I find myself lining every envelope I can get my hands on!

I made these two with the embossing technique we learned in week one of my class.  I like them so much better with a colorful envelope liner.

Happily, my card supply is re-stocked after making these with Mom and my Thursday night stamp class at church!

Happy Friday to y’all, and happy Olympics day!  We have a softball game, but hopefully we can catch at least a little bit of the opening ceremony.

What I’m Loving Wednesday

1. July’s card from Mom:  how cute is that little guy?

2. We enjoyed one of my favorite quiche recipes last night for supper.  I am looking forward to packing the leftovers for lunch for the next few days!

3. My dad is in town for a couple of days for business, and he got to stop by for a visit last night – love getting to see my family!

4. The Olympics start this weekend!  I am so excited!  I can’t wait to watch, and I’m hoping for some Dutchess Kate sightings.

The Best BLT

After a quick trip to the Farmer’s Market, my lunch on Saturday was summer on a plate.  Here is what I used for my new favorite summer staple:

  • Nine Grain Bread from Great Harvest
  • Tomatoes from Dallas Farmer’s Market
  • Baby Spinach
  • Peppered Bacon – baked in the oven
  • Avocado {so maybe this should be called a BLAT?}
  • Mustard
  • Basil Mayo

I don’t know if this sandwich tasted so good because we had been outside playing tennis and sweating up a storm that morning or if I had just built up how good a BLT would taste on one of the hottest days yet, but it sure did hit the spot.  So much so that I had a repeat for supper on Sunday night.

Cards With Mom’s Supplies

My mom has quite the arsenal of card making supplies, and I was excited that she brought a few things to Dallas for me to use last weekend.  On Sunday morning before church we made a few cards.  I think we were inspired after the excessive amount of time we spent in Paper Source on Saturday.  We were both doing a lot of squealing the entire time and only left so that we could make it to Sissy’s for our reservation.

As much as I love making cards any time, it was an extra special treat to have Mom there!  I am now on the hunt for some paper tape after developing a slight obsession with hers.

She also brought a topiary stamp.  Love!

I had some random pink envelopes, so we made this birthday card for one of them.  I am so obsessed with this bird.  It is doubtful that I will ever part with this!  Maybe I will send it to myself for my own birthday.  That would just be a whole new level of crazy.

I need to make more of these for birthdays immediately!

Sissy’s Southern Kitchen

Say hello to my new favorite restaurant in Dallas. This is quite fitting, seeing how I was a HUGE fan of THE Lisa Garza when she was on Food Network Star.  Prepare yourself for a picture overload, because I could not get enough of Sissy’s

Where to even begin?  Lisa Garza in a presh bicycle dress, waiters in bow ties, the gorgeous décor… I even took pictures of the bathroom, y’all.

We ate on the screen porch.  I love me some porch sitting, so this was fantastic.  Look at those yellow doors!  And those precious menus! I should go ahead and apologize now for the excessive use of exclamation marks in this post.

Lisa herself came out and set those flowers out – we about died.

My choices: spicy crawfish salad & squash casserole.  Both very good!  Also, look at that cute little cast iron dish!  It goes without saying that I loved her Spode dishes.

Mom’s choices: layered salad & cheese grits.  The grits were delicious.  I cannot speak to that salad because I do not eat it.  Mayo = yuck.  But, Mom and MK both said it was really good.

MK: fried chicken & mashed potatoes.  We knew one of us was for sure getting the chicken.  It was so so so good.  When I make Austin take me here for a date night, I’m definitely getting the chicken.

And we finished with peach pie to share.  This peach pie was not like anything I have ever tasted.  I expected it to basically taste like peach cobbler, but it had really bright flavor thanks to what I think was lemon juice.  We also agreed that there was nutmeg in it, which was different but delicious.  Also, another cute dish!

We also started with some un-pictured squash puppies.  They were un-pictured because we inhaled them so quickly!

And finally, the bathroom.  We were the only ones in there, and I couldn’t help myself!  I just loved the décor so much.

The framed botanicals might be my favorite.

This meal was the perfect end to a long Saturday of shopping.  I cannot wait to go back with Austin… or anyone and everyone else I can convince to go with me.

MK’s Look for Saturday Shopping

I have posted about Mary Katherine’s wonderful style on the blog before, and I just had to show y’all her shopping look.  Everyone in Dallas thought she looked pretty cute too, because all I heard all day in every store we went in was some combination of: “Oh my gosh, you look so cute!”  “I love your hat!”  “Your hair is soooo pretty.”  “Ohmygosh I looove your clutch – is it ostrich?”

The Finished Plate Wall

This plate wall has been a long time coming.  I remember shopping for plates in Jackson back in October right after I started this blog.  Much like our long overdue headboard, I am thrilled to finally have my plate wall finished.

Mom traced my plates and platter, then we kind of measured/kind of eyeballed it to get everything situated.

We used some plate-hangers from Home Depot for the small plates and one from Michael’s for the platter in the middle.  Once we had the placement down, we just hung everything up and enjoyed not looking at a bare wall any more!

The platter is from Target, and all of the small plates are from Anthropologie.  I love it!

Saturday: Walking, Breakfast & a Trip North

Saturday morning I was bound and determined to take my visitors to two of my favorite Dallas spots: the Katy Trail and Company Café.  If you have read this blog at all before, you probably know that one of my favorite ways to spend a morning includes a walk/run on the trail followed by breakfast at Company Café.  Mom and Mary K loved it too, and our Saturday was off to a great start.

I get the same thing every time I come here, and I don’t know that I will ever tire of this meal!  It does not make for very exciting blog content, but it most certainly made for a great Saturday breakfast.

After we freshened up and got ready for our day, we headed north to McKinney.  Before I get too ahead of myself, how cute does my sister look?  Don’t worry, I took some pics of all the details in her outfit to post later this week.  Such a fashionista!

Downtown McKinney was absolutely precious!  There were several cute clothing boutiques, and I found one of the best home décor stores ever.  Austin is probably not going to be thrilled about this discovery, but I know where I will be shopping to furnish a house when we purchase one! If any Dallas girls are interested, it is called Home & Garden Trading Company.  Here is a link to their Facebook page, and below are some quick pics of some of my favorite pieces I spotted.

Beautiful stained glass window – I would love to have something like this in our next home.  I also loved the look of this armoire.   Below is another pretty piece that I think could go a lot of different places in a house.  And finally, that gorgeous chair. Loved it so much!

These little nesting tables were really cute, and y’all know I love me some topiaries.

I thought this table was beautiful, but maybe with different chairs?  And definitely without whatever those creatures are on top!

My parents actually lived in Allen, and my mom taught in McKinney when I was a baby.  Mom was amazed at how much it has changed.  It was such a cute town and definitely worth the quick trip.
