Catching Up

Hello friends.  I feel like my little blog hasn’t felt much love this week!  I’m telling you, getting used to working full time is kind of a bigger adjustment than I anticipated. Well, that and the fact that Austin has been off work all week (not fair!), so I have been wanting to spend all my free time with my lively accountant husband.  One day I will have to tell you about the time Austin was deemed the liveliest accountant ever.

This week feels like it was a total whirlwind, but I am going to attempt to hit the high points…
On Thursday night we cooked a stir fry recipe from a recent Southern Living and my favorite “Unfried Rice” from Daily Garnish.  It was delicious and packed full of veggies.

Friday was a very special day for my sister-in-law Courtney.  She got her Aggie ring!  Aggie rings are a BIG deal at Texas A&M, and we are so happy for Courtney.  Austin even got to be in College Station to celebrate with her.  The Aggie ring is a universal symbol of the Aggie family, and every Aggie I know wears his or her ring with pride.  Here is a link if you would like to know more about our little rings made of gold. Congratulations Courtney!

I managed to make the best of being stuck in Dallas on Courtney’s ring day and had a very successful lunch break at Northpark.  I popped into Anthro to use my birthday coupon and got some perfume and a cute dessert plate.  I have been collecting plates for several months for a plate wall I am planning in our dining area and this little beauty spoke to me yesterday.  {pic from}

I also stopped at Talbots to see if by chance I could find an Easter dress.  I don’t think I have ever in my life not had an Easter dress this close to Easter, but I am happy to say Talbots delivered.  I happen to love Talbots, by the way.  My mom has always always always shopped there for as long as I can remember and everything about the brand is classic in my book.  Can’t wait to wear my pretty pink dress next Sunday!

I lucked out and had a really sweet sales girl helping me.  She informed me that the dress was 25% off, then I got another 10% off because I have a Talbots Red Rewards Card and then another 10% off because it was my birthday month!  Yay for birthday discounts.

Today I enjoyed some much-needed pool time relaxing.  It was pure bliss.  The weather here in the big D is absolutely perfect for laying out today.

I also got a package in the mail from my Mom!  It contained April’s card – this one may be my absolute favorite yet!  It also had a PRECIOUS blue jacket, which coincidentally, is also from Talbots.  Great minds think alike :)  I adore it and cannot wait to wear it to work on Monday.  I will definitely be taking an OOTD picture.

Tonight my plans include finishing up some preparations for tomorrow’s shower and making some cards with my new goodies from Paper Source.  Sounds like a perfect Saturday night in to me!  Hope y’all are having a lovely weekend.

Birthdays and Other Fun

First of all, happy birthday to two very special people!  My GJ’s birthday is today as well as my very first friend in life, Katey!  Happy birthday to both of y’all – I love you!

I subscribe to a Proverbs 31 daily email devotional, and reading it every morning always gives me some good food for thought for my day.  My friend Sue Ann and I have discussed lately that sometimes we feel like these were written JUST for us on certain days.  Today was one of those mornings where I am convinced God sent today’s devotions specifically for me.  You can read today’s email and subscribe here for some great encouragement.

In other news, my Paper Source order came in yesterday and I can’t wait to spend some of my nights this week card-making.  That will definitely be bloggable :)

Austin is off work this week.  I know he is loving his free time.  I am loving being able to cook supper for someone other than myself at night!  Ha – let’s be honest, all those nights he works late I can be found on the couch with a bowl of cereal.  Tonight I am making this caramelized onion quiche that I saw in a magazine recently… pretty exciting!

Our Weekend

We started our weekend with a belated birthday celebration for me with some of our friends at my new obsession, Cane Rosso.  The food was delish, again, and it was so good to catch up with everyone.  We missed Sarah and Matt!  I wised up and ordered an entire Caprese salad for myself as an appetizer.  I could not bear to share any this time.

After dinner we came back to our apartment and I whipped up on everyone in Trivial Pursuit, per usual.  Ha!  I am convinced they let me win because it was my birthday.  But, as everyone who knows me at all knows, I am a much more pleasant person when I win, so it was a great night. :)

Saturday was spent working out, running errands, and at a wedding in Southlake.  That would be wedding number 6 of 13 this year for the Wall family!  We had fun visiting with our newlywed friends Ryan and Cassie, but sadly, I did not take a single picture.

Our Sunday morning started bright and early!  We got up at the crack of dawn to clean our apartment.  I have to brag on Austin for one minute, he cleaned the tub/shower and did so good!  He probably shouldn’t have revealed his skills in this particular area because now I am going to do everything I can to never clean it again!  Next to ironing, cleaning the shower is probably my least favorite chore.  (WOW this blog is riveting!)

We greeted at church this morning then had a great Sunday School lesson and service at FBD.  Love it so much there!

We came home and had this deliciousness for lunch, napped, and then had another tasty meal for supper.  My kind of day.  In between my two meals, I also read my latest Southern Living and took a delightful nap.  Sunday afternoons are the best.

{pasta salad with olives, cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, cucumber, sun dried tomatoes, parsley and basil + fruit salad}

Austin grilled this pork tenderloin for our supper tonight and it was SO good!  Thanks to our great friends Paige and Travis, we even have a fancy personalized wooden cutting board for slicing.

I am stuffed!

Now for the bad news, I have had March 25 marked on my calendar for MONTHS.  I have been so so so excited for the Mad Men premiere tonight.  I tweeted about it earlier and have basically planned my whole day around it.  Well, it started fifteen minutes ago and guess who is not watching?  We found out about two lovely hours ago that we do not get AMC through our cable package!  The horror!  I almost cried.  Of course I am being overly dramatic, and luckily I discovered we can purchase season 5 on iTunes and watch it on Mondays on our iPad, but oh my goodness, talk about deflated.

Hope y’all have had a wonderful spring weekend, and if you are watching Mad Men right now, just know that I am insanely jealous!

Thursday Tidbits

  • Look at the fun stamps I ordered from Paper Source today with some of my birthday money!  I am dying for them to get here and dying over the cuteness!  I predict a fun day of card-making goodness ahead.  Hurry up and get here my cute little rubber friends.  {Thank you Mammo & Pop!}

  • I have been working full time for a little over a month.  It is driving me crazy that I still don’t have a set routine for my mornings and evenings.  I know I could be using my time more efficiently, but I just haven’t figured out exactly how to fit everything in yet.
  • Austin and I watched Duck Dynasty on A&E last night.  OMG – new favorite show.  I am not even kidding.  These are my people.  Well, that might be a stretch, but I got way way way too excited about seeing good old north Louisiana on TV.  They had some of the best quotes ever.  And they all know that what you put your drinks in to keep them cold is called an ICE CHEST not a cooler.  Thankyouverymuch.  They probably also call a huggie a “huggie” and not a “koozie.”  Amen.  I laughed so hard.

  • I am constantly amazed at how many people do not know when and when not to use an apostrophe.  Plural and possessive are NOT THE SAME THING.  Mr. and Mrs. Smith = the Smiths.  The only time one would need an apostrophe is if you were to say: “We are going to the Smith’s house.”  Not: “Let’s call the Smiths and see if they want to go to the baseball game with us” or “The Smiths are coming over.”  Sorry for the rant!  The grammar police in me flares up every now and then.
  • I just got my new Southern Living in the mail today, and I’m off to enjoy it on my couch.  Hope y’all have had a great Thursday!

WILW: spring faves

Happy first day of spring one day late!  Here are some of my spring faves that have been making me smile lately.

I made this salad for lunch yesterday and again for today’s lunch.  It is delish!  Fresh spinach, celery for crunch, a few honey roasted almonds, blueberries, and herbed goat cheese.  I have been eating salad without dressing lately, and this one is no exception.  The goat cheese is plenty creamy, and I don’t even miss having dressing!

{let’s be honest – these nests stay up pretty much year-round, but they are especially appropriate for spring}

{Last weekend we cleaned off our little porch and got some new chairs.  We have been loving us some porch time for our early morning coffee and Sunday’s grilled supper.}

{last but not least, the March hand stitched card!  I am loving this year’s theme!}

Hope your spring is off to a wonderful start!  Happy Wednesday.

Jackson Reunion 2012

My quick trip back to Mississippi was a fun one.  I miss my friends and my old city so much!  It was wonderful to be back and see everyone, I just wish Austin could have come along.  We decided we all miss how much free time we had in law school now that we’ve all officially entered the real world.

Once everyone got to Jackson on Friday night, we went to Bon Ami for dinner.  I felt really bad for everyone else in our little area trying to enjoy their dinner…we were just a tad on the loud side!  We had fifteen people at one long table who hadn’t seen each other in months = lots of talking and catching up.

After a quick night of sleep (thanks Em for letting me stay with you!) Em and I made some delish pancakes, grits, and bacon to fuel our Saturday plans.  We ate and got decked out in our green then headed downtown for Jackson’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  Our wonderful Drew had set up our tent in a prime spot right by the governor’s mansion.  We were right by a big crowd from our law school, and it was fun to see everyone!

Oh how I love Mississippi: watching the parade from the front yard of the governor’s mansion and an appearance by Colonel Reb.  Hotty Toddy! (P.S. So excited to go to Oxford this fall for the A&M Ole Miss game!!)

The perfect end to our parade day was a trip to Keifer’s right next door to my old apartment.  The grilled chicken pita wrap was just as good as I remember :)

There were some sweet friends I did not get to see this trip, but that just gives me an excuse to head back soon.

So many times this weekend I was just overcome with how much I miss Jackson.  I never expected to love it as much as I do when I made the decision to move there for law school three years ago.  I am so glad God took me there – those were three of the best years with some of my best friends.  Can’t wait until next time!

I’m off to enjoy our new patio chairs while Austin grills me some supper.  As fun as it was to see my friends, I am glad to be home and ready to stay off of I-20 for a while.  From Dallas to Jackson and back in one weekend (with stops in Ruston along the way) is quite an experience!

Birthday Goodness

Happy Friday!  I could not be more excited about my trip to Jackson this weekend.  I am so ready to get on the road and get there and see all my friends!  Here’s hoping my 1/2 day flies by!

My birthday was Wednesday, and I had a wonderful day!  We had some yummy cake at work, and I got to go out on a date with Austin that evening.  It was a special treat just to get to have dinner with him!  He has been working in Plano, so we met close to his work at the Shops at Legacy.  Such a pretty area to walk around!  My eyes were opened to Plano for sure – now I am starting to understand why so many people move there from Dallas.  Anyway, we had a lovely dinner, and it was so nice to get to see each other for a little bit in the evening.

My love for topiaries was well documented earlier this week here, and my family must have all been paying attention :).  I got this pretty little guy at the Farmers Market Saturday when my family was in town.  He sits on a corner of my desk, and I get to enjoy him all day long.

Then yesterday I got a package from my wonderful in-laws with this little beauty!  I am obsessed with both of these and so thrilled that I have a topiary for work and one for my dresser at home as well.  Thank you to all of my parents!!

My sisters gave me this cute contraption which I now have sitting on our bar with pretty blue and green eggs in it.  Obsessed!  They know me so well.

Thank you, family, for my wonderful birthday gifts!  I also got so many sweet cards and texts – thank y’all!

See y’all on Sunday with lots of fun pics from my weekend in the ‘sip!

DIY Pottery Barn Copycat Wreath

Last week I was so excited when I saw that some of my favorite bloggers were hosting a “winter” edition of their Pinterest Challenge. I decided I wanted to participate, but was having trouble coming up with something Pinterest-inspired (pinspired?) to make.  Then Sunday afternoon, it hit me!  I had pinned and blogged about this pretty Pottery Barn wreath last week but it took me a few more days to realize I could make my own version and spruce up our door for spring.

greatest wreath of all time

I picked up the grapevine wreath, some moss, some greenery, and some hot glue sticks at Michaels earlier this week.  I have a box solely dedicated to nests and nest d├ęcor in my hall closet {you think I’m kidding…}, so I grabbed one of my favorite little guys with pretty tiny eggs.

I brewed a pot of coffee and fired up the glue gun at the crack of dawn and got to work.

Nest placement was first on my agenda, then I kind of moved out from there placing moss and greenery in little clumps as I made my way around.  I looked at the PB picture a good bit for reference.

And here’s the finished product!  Total cost was about $18.  Not bad considering the Pottery Barn version would have been significantly more expensive, and when I just tried to check the price on the website, the PB version is sold out!

Here she is hanging on our door making me smile every day when I get home.

I don’t know about y’all but I feel so accomplished when I actually do or make something from Pinterest instead of just drool over the pretty pictures.

Happy pinning & crafting!
