WILW: Spring Fling

Spring is my absolute favorite season. I love spring weather, my birthday is in the spring, our wedding was in the spring, and my favorite holiday, Easter, is in the spring. Every year around this time I get so antsy to start wearing spring clothes and just be done with winter... not that we have had much of a winter in Dallas this year! When I received the spring Pottery Barn catalog last week, my craving for spring reached a whole new level.

Love this wreath! I am usually not a wreath person. In fact, I don't even own a wreath, but I could certainly see myself owning this little guy.

Because this is our first married Easter, Austin and I do not have Easter baskets for Easter morning. I just made the executive decision that we need these!

I can only imagine how cute this runner would look for an Easter brunch, a baby shower, or just permanently on my table from March - June! My dishes are even already in the picture - it is meant to be!

Ok, I might like this better than the wreath. I need more doors to decorate!

And finally, I saved the best for last. I squealed so loud when I stumbled upon this on the PB website. If only I had a place to put it!

Happy last-day-of-February-almost-March!!

Tuesday Tidbits

I am a day late to the Oscar fashion party, but there was one dress that has been stuck in my mind since Sunday.  I love that bow!!  I have always loved high-neck gowns, and this dress is everything it should be in my opinion: feminine, age appropriate, fun, flirty, and flattering.  {pic from Google images}

Also, happy birthday to my Pop!  I hope you are having a wonderful day, Pop, and I love you!

Switching gears, say a prayer for my BFF Emily and her family today if you get a chance.  Her mom is having cancer-related surgery this morning.  I love you, Em!!!

Weekend Food

I have loved having Austin home and actually having someone to cook for!

Friday night I made us some quinoa bowls.  These were one of my staples in law school, but I had never fixed quinoa for Austin.  I just cooked the quinoa in chicken broth, served it over a bed of greens, and topped it with black beans and corn I had cooked with some salsa and spices for a little bit.  And clearly we topped it with cheese – everything is better with cheese!  This is such a filling and healthy meal.  The possibilities for toppings are endless.

I have probably mentioned this before, but I LOVE Saturday morning breakfast.  We have gotten into a habit of taking a little more time on Saturdays to enjoy our morning meal, and it is one of the highlights of my week.  This particular Saturday, we went for a jog at the Katy Trail and then feasted on blueberry pancakes, eggs, and bacon (and yes, I like my bacon very crispy).

Saturday Austin had to work most of the day but got to come home for lunch.  I made us some chicken salad sandwiches + fruit on the side.  I used a rotisserie chicken for my chicken salad, and I am embarrassed at how easy it was!  I am probably one of the last people on earth who had never bought a rotisserie chicken until Saturday.  My first experience with those little guys was a good one though – my chicken salad turned out just fine!  I shredded the chicken and added a tiny bit of mayo, celery, dried cranberries, pecans, green onions, and salt & pepper.   Yum!

I had big plans to make turkey burgers on Saturday for supper, but we were both feeling a little lazy, so those got bumped to next weekend!

Happy Friday!

Yay for Friday and the almost-weekend!  I am extra excited for the weekend because I get to pick Austin up at the airport this afternoon.

Last night I had a fun dinner with my friend Cam at Sangria.  I am so glad she introduced me to this place – it might be a new fave.  We enjoyed some tapas on the patio and talked about how much we miss Jackson :) I don’t know about you, but I adore tapas style eating.  We shared some bacon wrapped dates, an amazing salad with strawberries and goat cheese, and a trio of dips and pita bread.  Cam also got escargot pot pie!  We did not share that… ew.

My plans for the weekend include:

  • Austin cooking me an egg tomorrow morning – his are the best!
  • A trip to the farmers market with Cam to get some veggies and a plant for my new office.
  • A trip to Hobby Lobby to get some diplomas framed and do a little browsing.
  • Finally making it to a Francesca’s!
  • Camera shopping for my birthday present.
  • Ordering invitations for the baby shower in April.
  • Cooking supper for Austin!
  • Lunch with our Sunday School class after church.
  • Tennis and running at White Rock.
  • Convincing Austin to help me film some hair tutorials for the blog!

see you tomorrow DFM!

Hope y’all have a happy weekend!

P.S. I have to give a shout out to my youngest sister, Mary Katherine.  She just started playing on her high school golf team and was the number one seed going into her tournament yesterday!  So proud of her!!  MK – Austin wants some lessons…

Tuesday Randoms

  • After majorly slacking off last week, my goal is to work out every morning this week.  So far so good – I did yoga yesterday morning and ran this morning.  Exercising in the morning really makes a huge difference on how I feel during the rest of the day, and I am always so glad I did it on the days I actually do it.
  • I usually do the original “Body by Bethenny” yoga video, but I really want to try her newest yoga DVD soon.

  • I am going to an alumni dinner for my law school with my friend Cam tonight – excited to see her!
  • For some reason, I have been hung up on going to Francesca’s and shopping for jewelry?!  I don’t even know where one is in Dallas, but if I am still thinking about it this weekend, I think I will have to locate one.
  • I have finished ONE of the books listed in this post that I want to read… I have a stack of most of the others just waiting for me, but for some reason I haven’t been super motivated to read them.
  • I am helping host a baby shower in April, and I am already so excited about it!  Need to order invitations asap… or maybe make these?

  • I really need to go pack my lunch!  Sorry for the lame blog post!

    Whirlwind Wedding Weekend

    I just got back from a quick trip to Austin to see my Austin and go to a(nother) wedding.  Our friends James and Megan got married yesterday at the beautiful chapel at Riverbend Church.  Their reception was so fun and at such a cool place in Dripping Springs.  One of the best things about having allllll of these weddings this year is getting to see out of town friends way more often!  And, before I post these pictures, I  need to vent a little about my camera: so over it.  It is very old and going downhill quickly.  So glad my birthday is just a few short weeks away and that a camera is at the top of my list for Austin!  Nina, if you are reading, he needs some advice :)

    {see what I mean – the camera completely spazzed on this pic!}

    I am off to catch up on last week’s Gossip Girl and get to bed early!  I am going to try to not take another four day blogging break this week, but I’m still getting in the swing of things now that I have a real job.  Hopefully I can get into a routine and be a little more consistent.  Have a great week – I am jealous of those of you that have a three day weekend!

    WILW: Wolfe Studio

    I mentioned my LOVE for Wolfe Studio in yesterday’s post, but I couldn’t help but devote an entire post to this wonderful brand.

    When I was in Jackson for law school, I did a bit of babysitting in my spare time.  I met some precious families, and babysitting was a great escape from “law school world” for me.  Best of all, babysitting helped me discover my beloved Wolfe birds.  I started seeing them in people’s beautiful homes, and I became obsessed!  These birds are a Jackson staple.  The Wolfe studio was started in Jackson in 1946.  Every piece is hand glazed, and no two are the same.

    Imagine my delight when I discovered a store right down the street from where I lived that carried Wolfe birds!  The Everyday Gardener is the cutest store ever.  They have beautiful home décor, pretty plants and planters, and best of all, they carry a ton of Wolfe products!  I got my Mom a Wolfe bird from here for Mother’s day one year, and then I received all three of my Wolfe birds from here.  These birds were on our wedding cake and they are such a special reminder of my time in Jackson.

    {excuse these awful phone pictures – especially the cake picture of another picture… I am asking for a new camera for my b’day next month!!}

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

    I had fun doodling on some cards for my mom and sisters last week, and now that they have gotten them in the mail, here they are!  I just used cardstock, a red paint pen, and some foam hearts and went to town.  Also, I love dots!

    And here is my February hand-stitched card from Mom!  So simple and pretty!

    Austin did VERY good with my Valentine gift this year – a Wolfe bunny from Jackson!  I may have to devote an entire post to my love of Wolfe Studio products, but I have three Wolfe birds and now a bunny too.  I named him Sam.  I love him!

    Today I am loving my pink manicure, wearing a pink cardigan, and celebrating all the love in my life.  Happy Valentine’s Day to you!

    Katey’s Bachelorette Bash

    Saturday was so fun!  We started off with a lunch at City Café so the bride could get her favorite chicken salad in Dallas.

    So happy to get to see this one!

    All the Ruston girls.

    We got manis and pedis – so relaxing!

    Queen for the night!  Such a great night ;)

    The spread at the shower.  Loved the precious petits fours!

    Reunited with K&K!

    And I just had to include this one for the priceless faces everyone is making!

    I think it is safe to say Miss Katey had a GREAT NIGHT!

    Yesterday we stayed busy with church, errands, a SS class meeting, and we managed to squeeze in a little tennis too.  We loved getting to have supper with our church friends at Jason’s last night and enjoyed our first Dallas SNOW!

    Today I start my new job – so excited! Happy almost-Valentine’s day… hope y’all are staying warm!

    Hot Pink Heart Cookies

    Well, my cookies did not turn out quite as pretty as I had hoped.  I am just going to chalk this one up as a learning experience!  I guess hot pink might be more appropriate for a bachelorette party than pastel pink, but they are just not quite what I had pictured in my mind.

    I used this recipe and had visions of my cookies turning out like this:

    {picture via Jenny Steffens Hobick}

    But, it is safe to say that I am most definitely a beginner, because my cookies are a little more “rustic.”

    I am just going to go with the thought that neon pink and sprinkles are good for a bachelorette party, and the fact that I was in a hurry to ice these this morning at 5:30!

    I am so excited for all that we have planned to celebrate Katey today!  I will have a fun recap of our festivities tomorrow.

    Happy Saturday!

    Late Night Recap

    Today I have been wrapping up some of my Valentine’s Day crafts and organizing my recipe binder…and ironing.  {side note: ironing is my absolutely LEAST favorite chore ever.}

    I took some pics of the crafting, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise for anyone who is receiving a valentine from me in the next few days.  Red heart  I might just have to do a re-cap once February 14th has come and gone.

    Blog world, meet my recipe binder.  It is one of my very favorite Christmas gifts mainly because it combines lots of my favorite things: birds, nests, the colors blue & green, organization, and cooking!  What could be better?  Today I spent a while adding some new recipes from Pinterest and magazines.  Combine this bad boy with the meal planning tab in my home organization binder and I just turn into a meal planning fool.

    Thank you Mom for finding someone to make me exactly what I wanted!

    One of my best friends is getting married in April and her bachelorette party is this weekend!  I am getting super excited.  Today I made this little banner for her lingerie shower, and tomorrow I am going to try my hand at these precious iced sugar cookies.  Here’s hoping mine turn out as cute as those!

    By the way, having a bachelorette party around Valentine’s Day is the best idea ever.  There is so much pink stuff in the stores, and lingerie is out in full force in the stores… and sometimes even on sale!  We did not plan it this way on purpose, but I think it is working out pretty well.  Can’t wait to celebrate Miss Katey this weekend!

    Be back tomorrow, hopefully with pretty cookies to show!

    WILW: Work Wardrobe

    Now that I am officially venturing into the professional world, it is time to bulk up the “work attire” section of my closet! While I am certainly not starting from scratch, here are a few pretties that would be welcome additions to my wardrobe:

    Adore this!

    So versatile

    Any guesses on my favorite color to wear?

    And yes, I am a dress girl :)

    Also, not a suit girl, but those are a necessity in the real world too. Fortunately, they are not a necessity on my blog!

    {pics from my Pinterest}

    Hope y’all are having a great Wednesday! My day has been super productive so far, and tonight is the night I am making valentines. xoxo
